The Big Plant
Across the community schools, churches and community groups have been taking part for the 3rd year in the Big Plant. Westhoughton Town Council supplied 6000 daffodil bulbs to be planted in the community.
Councillor Alison Jackson Writes “On Saturday 2nd November we planted 400 daffodil bulbs at Ditchfield Gardens. Bill and Georgie, local volunteers and really super planters joined Councillors from Westhoughton Town Council, Sarita Chohan, Alan Kaufman, Alison Jackson, Linda Maher, Gillian Wroe and David Wilkinson.
On Sunday 3rd November we planted 400 daffodil bulbs at Westhoughton Central Park. Gail, a local volunteer joined Councillors, Alison Jackson, Linda Maher, John McHugh and David Wilkinson. We met at Westhoughton Central Park and planted between the trees by the Queens Memorial bench.
Thank you to everyone who has taken part in the 3rd year of our Big Plant and we think it has been our best so far.
We started Big Plant as a Westhoughton Council initiative to brighten up Westhoughton with lots of daffodils and earlier in the year we gave bluebells and snow drops to schools and we planted some too in Westhoughton Central Park.
Schools have Eco leaders, teachers who have a special responsibility for helping children learn about and improve the environment so Big Plant is able to support this initiative.
Many thanks to our schools, Churches Community groups; including the Bowling Club Westhoughton Central Park, Daisy Hill Community Garden, Friends of Westhoughton Station, and the Youth Club who meet at John Holt Community Centre run by Play and Youth Services, Bolton Council.
We also gave bulbs to Westhoughton Cricket Club and Westhoughton Lions.
If you have any suggestions for next year's Big Plant we will share them with Westhoughton Town Council who fund the cost of buying bulbs for our Big Plant.
The bulbs were purchased from Boston Bulbs as they offered the best price.”
Suggestions can be emailed to the Town Clerk on townclerk@westhoughtontc.gov.uk or call 07921 862 603.
