Ambulances to the Ukraine

On Sunday 9th March a group left from Bolton Town Hall on their way to take some decommissioned ambulances to Ukraine. The Mayor of Westhoughton, Cllr Neil Maher has been at the forefront of this project with International Aid Trust to get 10 Ambulances out to Ukraine. Six ambulances went prior to Christmas and now the other 4 along with 2 other vehicles left yesterday.

A group of 12, consisting of 3 Mayors (Bolton, Blackrod and Westhoughton) along with the Deputy Mayor of Blackrod, Chairman of the Westhoughton Branch of the Royal British Legion, Marcus Pollard, and branch members Antony Hickman and Mark Bowman are driving the vehicles.

The group left for Hull from Bolton Town Hall, after talking to members of the public and press, collecting donations for future trips to Ukraine and having lots of photographs taken.

This morning (Monday 10th) they arrived at Rotterdam and are now making their way over to Krakow in Poland where they will meet and handover the vehicles which will then be taken into Ukraine.

The group will return tomorrow (Tuesday 11th March). The Westhoughton contingent will make a stop on their way home at Westhoughton Town Hall for a few pictures. If you are around Market Street around 9pm on Tuesday night please feel free to come over to welcome them home.
