Soroptimists’ 50 Years of the Formation of Greater Manchester

Deputy Mayor of Westhoughton, Councillor Gillian Wroe writes “On Thursday I attended the Soroptimist Afternoon Tea, with Cllr Deirdre McGeown, at Bolton Town Hall hosted by the Mayor of Bolton  Cllr Andy Morgan. We shared a table with the Mayors and Mayoresses of Horwich and Blackrod.

The word Soroptimist comes from the Latin soror meaning sister and optima meaning best. Soroptimist International was founded in California in 1921, there are now over 3000 clubs across the world. Their aim is to work on projects that help to improve the lives of women and girls locally, nationally and internationally.

Soroptimists from across Greater Manchester attended with each branch giving a brief insight into the projects they have been working on over the last year. “
